  1. Conc: a concordance generator for the Macintosh
  2.  
  3.      Conc produces concordances of texts. A concordance consists 
  4. of a list of the words in the text with a short section of the 
  5. context that precedes and follows each word. Conc also produces an 
  6. index, consisting of a list of the distinct words in the text, 
  7. each with the number of times it occurs and a list of the places 
  8. where it occurs. Conc displays the original text, the concordance, 
  9. and the index each in its own window. Clicking on a word in any 
  10. one of the three windows causes the other two windows to display 
  11. the entries for the same word.

  13.      Conc permits the user to define the sorting order and to 
  14. limit the concordance to words that match specified patterns 
  15. (GREP expressions).

  17.      Conc will do concordances both on ordinary flat text files 
  18. and also on multiple-line interlinear texts. In the case of 
  19. interlinear texts, the concordance can be limited to selected 
  20. lines (fields). In addition to word concording, Conc can also 
  21. produce a concordance of each letter in a text or body of 
  22. phonological data. Pattern-matching facilities are also available 
  23. to letter concordances, so the user can specify search patterns 
  24. that will have the effect of retrieving, say, words containing 
  25. intervocalic obstruents.

  27.      Concordances can be both printed and exported to plain text 
  28. files. As for performance, on a Mac IIci Conc can produce a 
  29. concordance of Moby Dick (1,177KB) in about 13 minutes and 
  30. requires about 2,500KB of memory.

  32. Conc version 1.70 is a beta test version offered as 'freeware'. If 
  33. you use it, we only ask that you send us your comments, complaints, 
  34. and wishlist. You can affect the shape of the final product! 
  35. Documentation is included on-disk in a Microsoft Word file.

  40. for Lexical Research at clr.nmsu.edu [128.123.1.12]. In the directory
  41. pub/tools/concordances/conc you will find the file conc170.hqx, 
  42. which is a binhexed, Stuffed archive. Send e-mail inquiries to 
  43. lexical@nmsu.edu. (While you are connected, I recommend downloading 
  44. the file catalog-short from the top directory.)
